Used only after notice period expires

Step 3: File the Michigan Eviction Complaint (DC 102c)[Prepare the DC 102c Complaint] -- Generate the correct complaint based on your notice (affiliate) [Find the Correct Michigan District Court] -- Ensure proper jurisdiction before you file (affiliate) [Check Filing Requirements and Fees] -- Avoid rejection due to incomplete submissions (affiliate)

Your Complaint Must Match Your Notice to Quit

Every detail in your complaint must exactly match your Notice to Quit:

  • Tenant names

  • Property address

  • Notice date and expiration date

  • Amount owed (nonpayment cases)

Any mismatch can cause delays, dismissal, or a full restart.

What Happens After You File

The court will issue a Summons and schedule a hearing date. You must then serve the tenant a second time with both the Summons and the Complaint (DC 102c).

Serve the Court Documents Properly

[Hire a Process Server for Court Documents] -- Recommended for compliance and documented proof (affiliate)[Generate an Affidavit of Service] -- Required before your hearing (affiliate/lead)

Service must comply with Michigan Court Rule 2.105 and is typically completed by a process server, court officer, or other authorized adult.

Where This Step Goes Wrong

  • Filing before the notice period expires

  • Mismatched information between the notice and complaint

  • Filing in the wrong district court

  • Improper service of the summons and complaint

  • Missing documents or fees at filing

Errors here don't get corrected at the hearing -- they send you back to Step 1.
